RED DEER, AB – A music teacher in Cardston, AB was honored for her outstanding dedication to young students passionate about music.

Linda Burwell received the Alberta Music Education Foundation’s Recognition Award. Burwell has been teaching music for more than 30 years at Cardston Elementary School. Her choir program at the school has been recognized in the past with several awards, including national festival placements.

Burwell was nominated for the award by Beverly Gerard, a parent of one of Burwell’s students.

Gerard said Burwell “has a gift with music that she shares with every student.”

Alberta Music Education Foundation’s Vice-Chair Robert George said in a statement that Burwell deserves the recognition.

“It may actually be considered long overdue, she is simply one of the best teachers of young musicians I know,” said George.

Burwell received the award at Music Conference Alberta, a provincial conference of music educators. The conference was held at the Sheraton Red Deer Hotel.
