MEDICINE HAT, AB. – It’s that time of year again, where Albertans will gain an hour of sleep as we switch from daylight saving time to standard time.

Clocks will go back an hour at 2 a.m. on Sunday.

The provincial government had looked into scrapping daylight-saving time last week, before a majority of MLAs decided to reject the idea.

The City of Medicine Hat Fire Services are also asking residents getting ready to set their clocks back this weekend to check their smoke detectors as well.

Officials say the expiry date should be reviewed annually, and fresh batteries should be put in to ensure smoke detectors are working properly. If your smoke detector is more than 10 years old, it will need to be replaced.

Having a working smoke alarm is the best way to protect your family in the case of a fire.
