Remaining South Railway Street construction to finish in 2018

MEDICINE HAT, AB – The final work on the South Railway Street project in the South Flats will be finished next year.

The city made the decision to end construction season, due to weather, availability of materials and traffic safety, as proceeding with construction after the end of October is risky due to the potential for freeze-up.

The city says the majority of work in the area has been completed. The remaining portion of the work, which runs from the Allowance Avenue overpass to Kingsway Avenue, will be finished in Spring 2018. The city says the contractor is ready to resume work when the weather permits.

The South Railway upgrades were the largest road and deep utility project for 2017. The city is upgrading roads, sanitary sewer lines and water mains, and recently finished the portion of the street near downtown.
