Police investigating false bomb threat at Crescent Heights bank

Oct 31, 2017 | 7:37 PM

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Medicine Hat police are investigating after a false bomb threat was reported at a local bank for the second time in a week.

According to a news release, the threat was received at the Servus Credit Union on 8th Street Northwest at 2:40 p.m. Police temporarily blocked part of the street while they investigated the incident.

Investigators determined the threat was “unfounded.” The road was re-opened around 5 p.m.

It’s the third bomb threat against a city bank in the last three weeks.

Last week, a passerby reported seeing a suspicious package in front of Servus Credit Union, which prompted the explosive disposal unit to be called in to dispose of the item. The package was described by police as an “unsophisticated mock explosive device.” The investigation is ongoing.

On Oct. 10, the ATB Financial Branch in Crescent Heights was evacuated after a bomb threat was called in. A suspicious backpack was found in the bank, but it was determined to not be an explosive.

Police continue to investigate.
