Police investigating potential explosive device in Crescent Heights

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Medicine Hat Police are currently dealing with a potential explosive device in northwest Crescent Heights.

Police are investigating a suspicious item found on the street in front of Servus Credit Union on Eighth Street Northwest. A news release says the item could potentially be an improvised explosive device, though there has been no confirmation if the item is explosive.

Police are asking the public to avoid the area. Businesses along 8 Street NW west of Division Avenue are closed as a precaution.

The investigation is ongoing, and is anticipated to take several hours to ensure public safety.
