MEDICINE HAT, ALTA- A man from Winnipeg has been charged after two banks were robbed in Medicine Hat.

The robberies took place on Thursday, October 19, and Friday, October 20, at two local branches of the Royal Bank of Canada and the Bank of Montreal. In both incidents, the same man walked into the bank, demanded a sum of cash, and fled upon receiving money. No weapons were used in either robbery.

According to a police news release, the man was arrested in Medicine Hat on Saturday morning, without incident.

Since his arrest, 53 year old Stephen Vogelsang is now facing two counts of robbery.

CBC Manitoba is reporting that Vogelsang used to work as a news director and sports anchor at CTV Winnipeg, before changing careers in 2002 to work at Red River College as a journalism instructor. He taught at the school until 2011, when he moved to Nelson, British Columbia.

He was held for a bail hearing, where he adjourned his charges over to provincial court on Tuesday, October 24.
