MEDICINE HAT, AB – The first ever ‘Makers Market’ is being hosted by Local Pop Up Stores Medicine Hat, on Saturday, October 21 10:00 A.M. – 4:00 P.M. at the Ross Creek Business Center (851 Industrial Ave SE, Medicine Hat).

Organizer Cali Vandewoestyne said, they are really excited to showcase products made locally at the market.

“The Makers Market is for entrepreneurs who actually create as opposed to distributing for a company or franchise, so people can come in to see what people are capable of making here in Medicine Hat,” she said.

The market will feature 20 different small businesses with a variety of locally created products explained Vandewoestyne, including children’s wear, home decor and body products. She said they have seen an increase in the number of home based small businesses in the last few years due to the downturn in the economy.

“Husbands or wives have lost their jobs and it’s supporting close to home, more than if you were supporting a larger franchise. If you’re buying from a local business you’re actually putting food on that persons table; you’re helping feed their family, you’re helping put their kids through hockey or gymnastics, you’re actually affecting that family personally,” she said.

Local Pop Up Stores Medicine Hat has held various markets in the past explained Vandewoestyne, but the Makers Market is the first of it’s kind to feature only products made in Medicine Hat.
