MEDICINE HAT, AB — The State of Local Emergency for the City of Medicine Hat is being lifted this afternoon.

All but 26 customers have had their power restored in Medicine Hat and Redcliff following Tuesday night’s wind storm. The Emergency Operations Centre was stood down starting at 1:30 p.m.

The majority of the power in Redcliff was restored by 2:30 p.m., and Kim Dalton, the town’s director of emergency management, was thankful for the collaboration between the City of Medicine Hat and the town to help get the power back online for the town.

“They worked with their partners in the region, and they brought in support, additional support, and they worked collaboratively to restore the power to the Town of Redcliff,” he said.

Dalton says power had been out in the town since 6 p.m. Tuesday evening. The power outage caused all schools to stay closed during the day.

He thanked residents for their patients as crews worked to repair downed power poles and return electricity to the town.

The city says there may be intermittent outages as crews continue to restore power and repair infrastructure over the coming days.

City departments such as Electrical Distribution, Parks, Municipal Works and Environmental Utilities are now carrying out recovery plans for their areas of responsibility. Clean up and repair work will continue over the next few days.

The city reminds residents to give crews to work as they repair infrastructure, clean up broken trees and branches from parks and residential areas. Call 403-529-8260 to report any electrical issues directly.
