MEDICINE HAT, AB — City crews are still out assessing the damage and making repairs to power lines following Tuesday’s windstorm.

The Electric Distribution staff, along with Municipal Works, Environmental Utilities, Parks and other departments are working together to ensure essential services remain for businesses and residents in Medicine Hat.

Power was restored to Tower Estates Wednesday morning, and crews are currently focusing on infrastructure repairs to nearby utility poles. Assessment of needs is currently ongoing in the Town of Redcliff.

The Family Leisure Centre is also closed this morning due to a power outage. According to an email from the city, it is expected to remain closed for much of the morning. There is no phone service in the building. Staff will update social media via cell phone until the power is restored.

The city’s landfill has resumed normal operations.

The city says there are still downed lines which require attention. Residents are once again advised to stay at least 10 meters back from lines and any suspected electrical issues. Suspected electrical emergencies can be reported to the city by calling 403-529-8260. 911 calls should only be used for fire and other emergencies at this point.

Other municipalities and contractors are helping complete the work.
