MEDICINE HAT, AB — A pair of Medicine Hat siblings are standing among the best senior athletes in the world at the Huntsman World Senior Games.

Michele David Roll and her brother Dan David wrapped up impressive showings in swimming and archery respectively, and have the medals to prove it.

“It was the weekend of my life,” said brother Dan, who has followed  the Huntsman Games for years, but has never taken the step towards actually competing.

Dan, competing in the men’s 60-64 category, finished in second place in 3D freestyle archery, losing to Arizona’s Larry Butterfield by 33 points. Dan was the only Canadian in the 3D archery portion of the games, and says a normal day of shooting would not have come close to a podium finish.

This is the first time Dan’s competed in the World Senior Games, and says he is already planning to compete in the event next year.

Michele cleaned up several swimming events in her age category, winning gold medals in 100m freestyle, 200m breast stroke and 400m freestyle. She also won silver medals in the 100m backstroke, 200m freestyle, 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle and was a third-place finisher in the 50m breast stroke.

Founded in 1987, the Huntsman World Senior Games continues through this week in St. George, Utah, bringing together more than 8,000 athletes over the age of 55.
