Cypress County results: Three incumbents defeated

DUNMORE, AB — Three wards in Cypress County will have new representatives on council.

Residents in four wards went to the polls Monday, and preliminary results are saying the Ward 7 incumbent will return to council.

In Ward 1, which had three candidates, Michelle MacKenzie was victorious with 73 votes, defeating incumbent Arthur Squire at 52 votes and fellow candidate Shirley Roy at 28 votes. She will represent the area of Hilda and Schuler.

In Ward 4, which covers Longfellow, Robin Kurpjuweit gained 137 votes, topping incumbent Garry Lentz at 120.

In Ward 7, incumbent Richard Oster defeated Garry Proctor with 199 votes to Proctor’s 63, and will represent Seven Persons North and Desert Blume.

Finally in Ward 8, Shane Hok has topped LeRay Pahl with 79 votes to Pahl’s 47, and will represent the area of Redcliff and Highway 523 North.

The remaining five wards in the county were acclaimed on September 18, and are listed below.

Ward 2 (Irvine/Walsh) – Darcy Geigle

Ward 3 (Elkwater) – Ernest Mudie

Ward 5 (Dunmore/Veinerville) – Dan Hamilton

Ward 6 (Seven Persons/Black & White Trail) – Dustin Vossler

Ward 9 (Jenner/Suffield) – Alf Belyea
