REDCLIFF, AB. – The Redcliff Public Library celebrated its 50th birthday on Saturday, October 14, 2017. With an open house complete with face painting and cupcakes.

Library manager Tracy Weinrauch said they had 60 people come through the door to help celebrate their milestone.

“”I would say 50 years ago when you thought of the library you would of had books and that’s about it. Over 50 years we’ve escalated to of course books, magazines, newspapers, movies, there is now computer use, there is online resources the material has changed a lot,” she explained.

She said the biggest change for the Redcliff Public Library was the move into their current building in 1982. Weinrauch explained that the library continues to play an important role in the town of Redcliff and brings their community together.

“The library is your central meeting place for a lot of people, there isn’t another building in town where you can get all ages from toddlers to seniors at anytime of day,” she said.

Weinrauch went on to add there are no large changes coming for the library and they intend to keep their services the same. However, she said that some libraries are moving towards offering only e-resources and e-books, she wasn’t sure if this would happen for the Redcliff Public Library in the future.
