MEDICINE HAT, AB – Not the home opener the SEAC Minor Midget AAA Tigers were looking for on Saturday, failing to find the score sheet in a 4-0 defeat at the hands of the Rockyview Raiders.

SEAC opened their season last weekend, dropping a 5-4 decision in Calgary to the NWCAA Bruins on Saturday and falling 8-1 on Sunday to the Red Deer Chiefs.

It was a scoreless affair between the Tigers and Raiders for much of the first period, until Rockyview defenceman Lucas Watkins opened the scoring with 1:17 left in the first.

That marker served as a spark for the Raiders, doubling their lead to 2-0 less than 30 seconds later off the blade of Kyle Newnham with Kyle Bray picking up his second assist of the period.

The Tigers struggled to gain momentum in the second period, and had to rely on goaltender Gage Reimer to come up with some big stops.

Rockyview made it a 3-0 contest with 4:25 remaining in the frame, with Daxton Budd putting one past Reimer and Newnham getting his second point on the afternoon.

Some insurance for the Raiders in the third period, as Hayden Schmidt found the back of the net on the power play with 11:27 left in the third.

Raiders goalie Gage Alexander stood his ground for the rest of the game, with SEAC falling by a 4-0 score.

Alexander picked up the shutout with a 23 save performance, while Reimer was handed the loss in the Tigers crease with four goals allowed on 31 shots.

Starting the season at 0-3, the Tigers sit alone in last place in the AMMHL’s South Division.

No time to dwell on the loss however, as SEAC heads down Highway 3 on Sunday for a 2:15 pm contest against the Lethbridge AAA Hurricanes.
