Meet the Candidate: Ryan Regnier

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Ryan Regnier is running to be a voice of the people and help more people his age find work.

Regnier, 23, is the youngest candidate seeking a seat on city council during this month’s election. In an email to CHAT News Today, he says jobs remain one of his biggest priorities.

“One of the many reasons I am running for a position on city council is to increase job market opportunities, giving incentive for young adults and families to remain in Medicine Hat,” he wrote. “As one can see, job opportunities have dwindled exponentially.”

Regnier has lived in Medicine Hat since 2000 and graduated from Crescent Height High School in 2012. He has worked in the oilfield as a medic, and has volunteered with St. John’s Ambulance as a first responder. Currently, he works in construction as a drywall finisher.

Regnier says speaking for the people in the city is another reason he has thrown his name in to run for council.

“It appears the current members on city council seem to be out of touch with the average citizen of Medicine Hat,” he said. “a good example of this is the recent dilemma involving the city transit and the current city deficit.”

Regnier says he is hoping his campaign will have gained the confidence of the community to be entrusted as a member of city council.
