EDMONTON – RCMP have laid charges in connection with a death of a four-year-old girl under the care of guardians in 2014.

Brenda Rabbit, 56, and Clyde Rabbit, 55, have been jointly charged with one count of failing to provide the necessaries of life in connection with the death of Serenity Rabbit. The four-year-old girl from Mawackis died in an Edmonton hospital on September 27, 2014 after being admitted with a head injury while in kinship care.

Serenity’s case made national headlines and prompted a review into the child intervention system in Alberta.

The two charged are scheduled to appear in Wetaskiwin Provincial court on November 9.
