Taste of Nations was a celebration of cultural diversity in Alberta

BROOKS, AB. – The 6th Annual Taste of Nations is took place on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at the JBD Canada Centre Field House. It showcased 18 vendors offering samples of their traditional cultural foods.

Organizer Libin Joesph, said the event was a huge success and he very happy by the community turnout.

“It’s an opportunity for friends, family and everyone to come together and enjoy each others culture and enjoy each others company,” he said.

A variety of different countries will be represented from Brooks community members including Ukraine, China, Egypt, Congo and more.

Mayor Barry Morishita, was travelling from table to table trying all the items each country had to offer.

“I was just eating a Jamaican patty they called it, which is a beef combination put in a little pastry and it’s delicious,” he said.

He went on to explain that something as simple as food could be a common link to bring more people together.

“By having conversations, by creating social interactions, that’s how we’re going to make people feel welcome,” he explained.

The Taste of Nations was held in conjunction with Alberta Culture Days, and is Alberta’s largest celebration of arts, heritage, cultural diversity and provincial pride.
