LEWISTON, Maine — A woman who drove a car that struck and killed her toddler daughter while she was leaving a birthday party over the weekend in Maine is unlikely to face criminal charges.

Police say 27-year-old Taneisha Thomas, of Lewiston, backed into 17-month-old Tiannah Sevey while leaving a parking space Saturday. The toddler died at a hospital.

Lewiston police Lt. David St. Pierre tells the Portland Press Herald, “It was an accident, through and through.”

Thomas had been attending a birthday party for one of her other children, a 10-year-old girl. Investigators say there’s no indication she was intoxicated when the car accident occurred.
