Host Rattlers looking to make up ground at South Regionals

DESERT BLUME, AB – Members of the Medicine Hat College Rattlers golf teams have some work ahead if they want to pick up ACAC South Regional titles at their home course.

Following the opening round of play on the women’s side, teammates Nicole Schultz and Sierra Zukowski are tied for fifth place after both shot opening round scores of 86.

They’re both sitting seven shots behind Red Deer College’s Shaye Leidenius, who sits at the top of the leaderboard at seven over par following the first round.

As for the men’s tournament, North Regional champion Matt Taylor is the top Medicine Hat golfer after the opening round, shooting a six over, 78 to end his day tied for 17th place.

He is chasing Red Deer College’s Cole Morrison and SAIT’s John McKiernan, both of whom shot three under and have a nine shot lead over Taylor.

Brett Griscowsky isn’t too far behind Taylor, posting a score of seven over par on Saturday and is tied for 20th spot.

A log-jam of Rattlers golfers are tied for 26th place, with Kelton Hope, Troy Ferguson, and Mitchell Morrison all signing their scorecards with scores of 83.

Kent Lesko rounds out the Rattlers on Saturday, posting a score of 13 over par and sits alone in 32nd place.

Final round action at South Regionals tees off at Desert Blume Golf Club on Sunday morning.
