Three wards in County of Newell going to polls in October

BROOKS, AB – Three wards in the County of Newell will be heading to the polls to choose their representatives on October 16th.

According to an unofficial list of candidates sent to the CHAT Newsroom, voters in Wards 4, 7 and 8 will vote on the candidate they wish to represent them.

In Division 4, which covers Scandia, Rainier, and Bow City, incumbent councillor Wayne Hammergren is being challenged by Inge Hoekstra.

Ellen Unruh, who represents Division 7 as the councillor for Rosemary, will face Edward Penner for the seat.

Finally, Councillor Brian de Jong is being challenged by Terry Neigum in Division 8, which covers Duchess.

The remaining seven candidates have been acclaimed, as no other candidate has filed nomination papers.

The advance vote takes place Oct. 7 and 14 from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. in the County of Newell office (½ a mile south of the CRA on Young Road)

Polls for election day will be open from 10 a.m. – 8 p.m. Polling locations will be announced at a later date.

Division 6 (Bassano): Kelly Christman (Acclaimed)

Division 7 (Rosemary): Ellen Unruh (incumbent), Edward Penner

Division 8 (Duchess): Brian de Jong (acclaimed), Terry Neigum

Division 9 (Gem): Molly Douglass (acclaimed)

Division 10 (Brooks): Lionel Juss (acclaimed)
