Murder charge laid following Lethbridge death over weekend

LETHBRIDGE, AB — Lethbridge Police have laid a second-degree murder charge against a 52-year-old man after the death of a 48-year-old woman this weekend.

Rodney Yellow Old Woman, 52, made his first court appearance on Monday. He was remanded into custody, and his next court appearance in September 28.

The 52-year-old was arrested Saturday at approximately 3:30 p.m., after police intervened in an assault in progress in the 400 block of Sixth Avenue South. The victim was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she died a short time later. According to police, the two were known to each other.

An autopsy is scheduled at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Calgary Monday to confirm the cause of death.
