Opening round complete for Rattlers golfers at North Regionals

CAMROSE, AB – A cool weekend for hitting the links, as the first major golf tournament of the 2017 ACAC season got underway from Camrose on Saturday.

The 2017 ACAC Men’s and Women’s North Regionals kicked off, with a number of Medicine Hat College Rattlers in the hunt.

On the men’s side, Medicine Hat’s Matt Taylor and Brett Griscowsky are each tied for seventh place at six over par.

Four shots back is Braden Schacher in a tie for 18th, Troy Ferguson and Mitchell Morrison are both tied for 21st at 12 shots over par, Kelton Hope is tied for 25th place at 14 over, and Kent Lesko rounds out the Rattlers with a 21 over par on Saturday and is tied for 33rd.

Grant MacEwan University’s Noah Lubberding was the only golfer to shoot under par on Saturday, and has the clubhouse lead at one under par after the opening round.

When taking a look at the team stroke play standings, the Rattlers are sitting in third out of six schools at 34 over par.

Three Rattlers were set to tee off in the women’s tournament on Saturday, however Ciara Bonogofski did not golf.

A strong showing in the opening round for her teammates in Nicole Schultz and Sierra Zukowski, as they sit in fifth place and eighth place, respectively.

They are chasing Grant MacEwan’s Hailey Turcotte, who shot a 10 over 81 in her opening round.

Final round action from Camrose gets underway on Sunday morning.
