Firefighters battling wildfire near Cranbrook

CRANBROOK, BC — Firefighters in British Columbia are currently battling a firefighter near Cranbrook.

The fire is burning northeast of Cranbrook and officials estimate the fire is approximately 25 hectares in size, and highly visible.

The fire has resulted in flights to and from the Canadian Rockies International Airport to be cancelled until midnight. Fire suppression aircraft are the only planes allowed to use the airport at this time. The airport and the City of Cranbrook are continuing to monitor the situation.

B.C. Wildfire Service is reminding residents and campers to remain vigilant and safe over the long weekend to prevent wildfires, as the risk throughout the province remains high.
