MEDICINE HAT, AB — Police and Alberta Sheriffs are preparing to shut down another drug house in the city.

Court documents obtained by CHAT News show a community safety order has been issued for a home at 1170 Bridge Street.

“We’ve been very successful with one house up on Aberdeen Street and there’s more announcements coming in the future about other houses,” Inspector Brent Secondiak said on Tuesday.

According to the court documents, officials will close the home in the Flats next week.

“There’s a lot of traffic, like, people coming in and out of there,” said one neighbour.

“There’s a Suburban that drives around about every second day, and it always seems to end up at that house,” said another.

A judge made the ruling on August 24th that a community safety order be issued for the property.

This will be the second home in Medicine Hat to be shut down and it comes exactly one year after Alberta Sheriffs and police seized the home at 390 Aberdeen Street.

“I want a neighbourhood that’s safe for our kids and for everybody else that’s out and about,” one neighbour added after hearing about the impending closure.

The documents state the property will be closed ‘from use and occupation at noon on September 7th’ and will be kept closed until noon on December 4th.

After that, the property will be given back to the owner, Darryl Hafso.

It also states ‘any tenancy agreement or lease between the respondent, Darryl Hafso and any other person, relating to the property, is terminated effective at noon on September 7th’.

Once the closure on at 1170 Bridge Street has been lifted, the community safety order will remain in effect until August of next year, meaning police will continue to monitor the property for any illegal activity.
