Irvine man headed to trial on weapons charges

MEDICINE HAT, AB — One of the two Irvine residents arrested in April on firearms charges is heading to trial next year.

Denver Ailsby, 38, had a trial date set for February 8 and 9 in Medicine Hat during his appearance in Medicine Hat provincial court on Tuesday. He has not entered a plea in relation to his charges.

Ailsby, along with 31-year-old Brandalyn Brandham, was arrested April 13 in Irvine following an investigation by Redcliff RCMP and the Medicine Hat Police Service. Police seized 10 firearms, bear spray, boxes of ammunition, four homemade silencers, prohibited magazines and 20 grams of marijuana.

Three of the firearms seized were prohibited due to a modified barrel length.

Ailsby and Brandham were each charged with four counts of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, one count possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, one count of unauthorized possession of a prohibited firearm, one count of possession of a controlled substance and one count of careless use/storage of a firearm.

Ailsby is also charged with one count of possession of a prohibited firearm, and one count of failure to comply with a probation order.

Brandham is due back in court on September 14 for an election and plea.
