EDMONTON, AB. – The Education Minister David Eggen, announced today from the steps of the Legislature that he will continue to meet with community groups across the province to gather ideas on how to combat racism and build a more inclusive Alberta.

Eggen has already met with dozens of groups in Edmonton, Red Deer and Calgary, following Premier Notleys request for him to gather input in July.

He plans to meet with groups in Fort McMurray, Grand Prairie, Medicine Hat and Lethbridge, but the dates have not been announced.

The minster also said he is looking to hear from individuals with ideas about how the government can help Albertans deal with racism through a public survey.

“3 questions: where do you see problems with discrimination, hatred and racism in our province? What practical steps can we take as the government of Alberta to rectify the situation? And what other ideas do people have or personal experience do they want to share” he said.

It is available on the Government of Alberta’s website. It will be open to the public until September 22.

In Medicine Hat, Antonio Samayoa, Executive Director of SAAMIS Immigration hopes he will be able to offer his suggestion when Minister Eggen visits.

“Community Education, any organization related to new comers in Medicine Hat like SAAMIS Immigration that program” he said.

The report is expected to be completed this fall.
