MEDICINE HAT, AB — The Medicine Hat Tigers have officially put pen to paper on a WHL Standard Player Agreement for goaltender Garin Bjorklund.

The Tigers announced Thursday morning they signed Bjorklund to the agreement. Bjorklund was picked by the Tigers in the first round of the 2017 WHL Bantam Draft, and was the first goalie drafted by the Tigers in the first round since 2007.

“Garin is a talented young goaltender,” said head coach and general manager Shaun Clouston in a statement. “He is athletic, competitive and possesses great work ethic.

“We are excited about his future and we look forward to working with him as he progresses to the WHL. We would like to welcome Garin and his entire family to the Tigers organization.”

Bjorklund, who is from Grande Prairie, played Bantam AAA last season with the Calgary CBHA Bisons. In 24 games, he posted a 15-6-3 record and a 1.97 goals against average.

Bjorklund was awarded the Alberta Major Bantam Hockey League Top Goaltender for the South Division last season. He was also named an Alberta Cup All-Star as his team took home the B Final title. In the three games at the Alberta Cup, Bjorklund posted a 1.34 GAA and 0.960 save percentage.
