Kelowna man has dog, truck stolen in Medicine Hat

MEDICINE HAT, AB — A Kelowna man is dealing one of the worst nightmares a pet owner can face.

Brad Kuich was travelling in Medicine Hat with his nine-month-old dog Belle. Tuesday afternoon around 4 p.m., he stopped at the Medicine Hat Mall to run a quick errand.

“I was only in around 15 minutes,” he said. “When I came back out, my vehicle was gone, and sadly, my border collie dog that was also inside the truck was gone.”

Kuich has owned Belle for nine months, picking her up from a breeder in Saskatchewan in February when she was eight weeks old.

“Belle means an awful lot to me,” said Kuich. “We’ve bonded from the time I went and picked her up. She sat in my lap for the entire trip back to B.C. from Saskatchewan. We bonded very closely.”

Belle, a Border collie, is black and white in colour, and has a slender build. She has a microchip and was wearing a brown leather collar when she was last seen.

Kuich was driving a 2013 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab with a British Columbia licence plate reading “FC 7182.” The truck is burgundy in colour.

An emotional Kuich says he’s received lots of positive support from friends since the theft happened. He had only one message to the people who stole his truck and Belle.

“I’m not concerned about the truck; I just want my dog back,” he said. “No questions asked. I just want to have my dog back.”
