MEDICINE HAT, AB — A former coach with the Medicine Hat Tigers has accepted a position with the Calgary Flames.

The Medicine Hat Tigers announced Friday that Darren Kruger, who was the team’s senior director of player development, has accepted a position with the Calgary Flames. Kruger’s position will see him working as a scout for the Flames, with a focus on the Western Hockey League’s Eastern Conference.

“This is a very exciting opportunity for Darren to work in the National Hockey League,” stated head coach and general manager Shaun Clouston in a news release.

Kruger spent four years as an assistant coach with the Tigers before becoming the senior director of player development.

Prior to coaching, he played two seasons in the WHL with the Swift Current Broncos from 1987 to 1989, and spent several years in Germany as a professional before becoming a coach.
