VIDEO: Redcliff RCMP speak about drowning in South Saskatchewan River

REDCLIFF, AB — The Redcliff RCMP is reminding the public to ensure they practice water safety, after a 40-year-old man died following an accidental drowning in the South Saskatchewan River on Tuesday.

The man and his family were swimming in the river when the incident happened. The man was seen in distress before going under the water. A family member was able to pull the man out of the river, and two witnesses began CPR before first responders arrived and took over. The man was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Staff Sgt. Sean Maxwell are providing few details about the incident, and will not release the man’s name.

Maxwell spoke with CHAT Television Wednesday morning, praising the efforts of bystanders and emergency personnel to save the man’s life, and reminding the public to be safe on the river.
