Man dies in drowning incident on the South Saskatchewan River

MEDICINE HAT, AB — RCMP say a man who was rushed to hospital Tuesday following and incident on the South Saskatchewan river has died.

Police received a call just after 3:00 P.M. The 40 year old man was swimming when RCMP say he appeared to be in distress and then went under water.

A family member managed to get the man onto a small island on the north side of the river.

Two men in a boat came to assist and called 911, and began resuscitation efforts, police arrived on scene and took over preforming CPR.

The man was rushed to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital by ground ambulance, but despite the efforts of the man’s family, bystanders and first responders the man has since been pronounced deceased at the hospital.

RCMP send their condolences to the family of the man.

The name of the victim is not being released and no other information will be made available.

MEDICINE HAT, AB — It was a bit of a chaotic scene down at the Echo Dale Regional Park boat launch Tuesday afternoon.

RCMP say a 40 year old male was found on the north side of the South Saskatchewan river at around 3:30 P.M.

Police were first to arrive on scene and with the help of bystanders made it across the river and began administering CPR.

A woman was heard screaming and pleading for first responders to save the man.

HALO was on stand-by, but the man was transported to the Medicine Hat Regional Hospital by ground ambulance.

Police said they were unsure of the man’s condition when he was rushed to hospital but he was believed to be in serious condition.

RCMP are unable to provide an update on the man’s condition at this point, but as of 6:15 P.M. he was still in hospital.
