MEDICINE HAT, AB – A picture perfect weekend for Matt Taylor, as he was crowned the Medicine Hat Golf & Country Club’s 2017 Club Championship winner.

Taylor shot a +1, 73 on Sunday and finished the weekend at one over par, six shots better than second place finisher Kelly Risling to capture the mens title.

“It’s actually the first time I’ve won a tournament,” said Taylor. “It was gorgeous weather, a gorgeous course, and I’m just really happy about it.”

On Sunday, Taylor said he had to deal with some windy conditions at times but was able to put together two consistent rounds at the Medicine Hat Club.

According to Taylor, a big reason for that was converting with the wedges and putter.

“I made a lot of birdies, I think I made 13 birdies over two days,” he said. “I made a lot of big numbers as well. But, just being able to make some putts and make some birdies was pretty key.”

Also on the men’s side, Darren Kruger and Aric Heron tied for third place with each shooting ten over par.

Becky Martin continued her championship-calibre season over the weekend, dominating the ladies division with a +1, 73 on Sunday.

That was good enough for her to capture an 18 stroke victory over Kaitlin Reniak and Cathy Woolfrey, who finished second and third, respectively.

In the senior men’s division, Ed Wagner hung on to win by two strokes over Marlon Croissant, after shooting a 76 on Sunday.

Cathy Stober shot scores of 84 and 83 over the weekend, and beat Pat Hall by five shots to take home the senior ladies title.

And in the junior championship, Nolan Burzminski ran away with the victory by 11 shots over second place finisher Sam Bratvold.
