MEDICINE HAT, AB — Roughly 40 teams took off running from the band shell at Kin Coulee Park on Saturday.

It was all part of the Alberta Pound and Rescue Centre’s latest fundraiser, a city-wide scavenger hunt based on The Amazing Race.

“We always wanted to do a big scavenger hunt just ‘cause a lot of businesses have supported us, so we’d like to give back to them as well,” said general manager of the shelter, Kaylyn Genio.

Teams started at the park before splitting up and making their way to 12 different locations across the city, each hosting a different task to complete before teams were allowed to move on to the next location.

Registration fees and donations are all going towards helping the animals at the shelter.

“It’s going to all of our vet fees,” Genio added. “We do have a lot of animals right now, it’s kitten season for everybody. We have a ton of cats. The more we can get vetted, the more we can get going home.”

Genio said the goal is to raise between $7,000 and $10,000.
