Addison, Foote lead Canada past Finland for first win at Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup
BRATISLAVA, Slovakia — Calen Addison and Nolan Foote had power-play goals in the second period as Canada earned its first win of the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Cup on Tuesday with a 5-1 victory over Finland.
Jack McBain, on the power play, Benoit-Olivier Groulx and Gabriel Fortier supplied the rest of the offence for the Canadians (1-0-1). Ryan Merkley, Barrett Hayton and Joe Veleno all tacked on two assists apiece.
“I thought it was a good rebound performance by our team,” Canada head coach Brent Kisio said. “We were aggressive in all three zones, and showed improvement as the game progressed.”
Finland’s Matias Maccelli broke Olivier Rodrigue’s shutout bid at 18:19 of the third period.
