PLYMOUTH, MICHIGAN – Some of the world’s top junior-level hockey players, including some local talent, are wrapping up play at the World Junior Summer Showcase in Michigan this weekend.

On Friday, Team Canada faced off against Team Sweden, with Canada pulling off a 7-4 victory.

Former Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar scored the game-tying goal in the third period for Canada, his first goal of the tournament.

Playing in two games so far, the University of Massachusetts commit has posted just the one point with four shots on goal.

Medicine Hat Tigers forward Mason Shaw also dressed for Canada on Friday, picking up an assist on Canada’s opening goal along with two penalty minutes.

Also with two games under his belt, Shaw has two assists with seven shots on goal and has been on the ice for three Canadian goals.

Tigers defenceman David Quenneville did not dress against Sweden, being listed as a healthy scratch.

Quenneville previously played in games against USA White and Finland, registering one assist with a pair of penalty minutes against the Americans.

Meanwhile it’s been one heck of a tournament for Tigers forward Max Gerlach, as he has played in five games for Team USA and Team USA White.

In those five games, Gerlach has three goals and four points to help the Americans to an undefeated record.

Gerlach will face off against his Canadian teammates on Saturday, as Team USA and Team Canada wrap up the Summer Showcase at 5:00 pm.

The 2018 World Junior Hockey Championships will begin on December 26 in Buffalo, New York.
