MEDICINE HAT, AB — Day one of competition from the Canadian Little League National Championship is in the books.

Both Alberta squads are still searching for their first victory after the Southeast Major All-Stars out of Lethbridge ran into a hot pitching staff out of Quebec, and the host Medicine Hat All Stars couldn’t contain Team BC’s offence.

The Southeast All-Stars, dawning Team Alberta’s colours for the fifth straight year, collected just three hits in a 4-2 loss to Quebec Thursday morning at Lovell McDonnell Field. Raphael Bourdeau did it all for Quebec, going 2/3 with one run at the plate and also earning the victory on the mound.

In game two, the Port Arthur Nationals out of Ontario dominated the Regina Kiwanis Nationals 13-1 in five innings. Evan Lachimea went an outstanding 4/4 at the plate, batting in five runs and running over home on three occasions.

Medicine Hat took the Strathcona Island Park diamond following the Opening Ceremonies of the tournament. Team BC struck first with a trio of runs in the top of the first. The local boys answered back with a single tally in the first, but the offence gritted it’s teeth from there on out for BC. They scored at least one run in all six innings.

Medicine Hat returns to action Friday against Regina at 5:00 p.m. from Lovell McDonnell Field.
