Fire ban in place for Cypress County

Jul 28, 2017 | 11:52 AM

DUNMORE, AB — Cypress County has upgraded their fire advisory to a fire ban.

The ban came into effect on Friday, and will be in place until further notice.

The ban suspends all current fire permits, and no permits will be issued while the ban is in place.

The county had been under a fire advisory since July 17. While the ban is in place, residents in the county will be unable to use incinerators on farms and acreages, burn barrels, recreational camp fires, solid fuel (charcoal) barbecues and Fires contained within approved facilities and appliances in designated camping and recreational areas.

Indoor fire places and liquid fuel barbecues are still allowed.

The Cypress County Fire Department says the hot, dry temperatures which have been in place for most of the month has raised the fire risk. Along with the winds, the county says if a fire starts, there is a high potential it could get out of control and become dangerous to the public and firefighters.

Fire bans are in place for much of southern Alberta. A full list of bans can be found here
