Kinsmen Home Lotto delayed

MEDICINE HAT, AB — The annual Kinsmen Home Lotto raffle has been postponed.

Due to a delay in construction, the home in Saamis Heights will not be ready to be raffled off by Aug 3.

“It was becoming pretty apparent that in about April-May that this is going to be a bit behind,” Adam Thompson, co-chair said.  “So we started making our contacts with Alberta gaming at that time.”

However, Kinsmen Home Lotto had “some issues” getting an extension grant and just recently got approved last week.

The house will now be ready for viewing on Aug 18 and the draw will be held on Sept 15.

The delay has slowed sales Thompson said “which is understandable since we sell the vast majority from the house.”

So far, Kinsmen Home Lotto sold 3, 600 tickets out of 8,400.

Although it has been slow to start, Thompson said the wait is worth it.

“It’s a brand new construction,” he said.  “Our builder is top notch so there will be a lot of great finishes inside and a finished basement as usual.”

The house, located at 59 Sierra Road is expected to be valued at $500,000.

Tickets will be sold until Sept 10.  Thompson suggested buying tickets online to avoid the expected long lines at the home.

Every year Kinsmen Home Lotto raffles off a house to raise money for the community and support free swimming, skating, and other grants from the service club.

Thompson said the delay will not affect the donations.
