MEDICINE HAT, AB — Over 85 horses were in Medicine Hat this weekend for the All Breed Horse Show.

Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede host the event every year for riders to show off their horses.

The horse show began on Friday with dressage, where riders and their horses were judged accordingly to the dressage guidelines. This year, entries doubled from last year.

English classes were held for riders who are just starting to get into competition on Saturday.

Brenda Gilchirst, Horse Show Chairmen said the hunter and jumper classes are good for people who are still training.

“We want to have something here in Medicine Hat to get those riders introduced to competition.”

On Sunday were the western and halter classes, where riders were being judged on how they present their horse.

“It comes from when you’re selling your horse and showing it to a prospective buyer,” Gilchrist explained.

Riders were judged on how they moved around their horse, cleanliness of the horse, correct standing, and over all comfort.

Late Sunday afternoon is the Freestyle Reining.  Riders make up their own choreography and put it to music.
