Accident near Vauxhall claims life of 18-year old

VAUXHALL, AB – RCMP are investigating a deadly accident overnight (July 21) that occured north of Vauxhall.
 
RCMP Cpl. Laurel Scott says weather and road conditions appeared to be good at the time.
 
Scott says around 10:20 pm, a car with a 17-year old female driver and an 18-year old female passenger was travelling eastbound on highway 526, when it was hit by an SUV travelling northbound on Highway 36. 
 
The 18-year old was pronounced dead at the scene, while the 17- year old was taken to hospital with non- life threatening injuries.
 
Three people in the SUV were also injured and taken to hospital, but are expected to be ok.
 
RCMP say an accident reconstructionist is investigating all possibilities to determine the cause of the accident.
 
The area was closed to traffic for about 6 hours overnight, but re-opened to traffic around 5 o’clock Saturday morning. (July 22)
