Multiple fire bans in place in Alberta national parks

BANFF, AB — Due to hot and dry conditions in the province, Parks Canada has put fire bans in place in several national parks in Alberta.

Fire bans are currently in place in Waterton Lakes National Park, Banff National Park, Jasper National Park and Kootenay National Park due to an elevated risk of fire.

The ban includes all open fires, except for portable propane fire pits, gas or propane stoves, propane of gas fuelled lanterns with an enclosed flame, and patio heaters (propane, catalytic or infrared/radiant).

All of the bans cover the entire area of the parks, and it is an offence under the Canada National Parks Act to contravene the regulations. Those who are found to have broken the rules can be evicted from the campground, lose their camping permit, and could face charges.
