Man charged with kidnapping, assaulting taxi driver briefly appears in court

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Eight months after he was arrested, the man accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting a Medicine Hat taxi driver still hasn’t been able to have a bail hearing.

Shawn Baldhead, 29, made a brief appearance in Medicine Hat Provincial court on Tuesday, where he had his bail hearing adjourned once again.

Baldhead was arrested on Nov. 26 in Calgary after he allegedly kidnapped a female taxi driver, sexually assaulted her, and transported her to Calgary against her will. The driver of the cab managed to escape in Calgary.

He was charged with sexual assault with a weapon, kidnapping, three counts of threats to cause death, robbery, arson damage to property and four counts of breaching conditions. Baldhead was on bail at the time of the offence.

Baldhead remains in custody, and returns to court on August 29.
