LETHBRIDGE — Alberta Health Services has issued a water quality advisory for the Milk River at Writing-On-Stone Provincial Park.

The advisory went into effect on Friday due to elevated levels of fecal coliforms detected through testing of the river, according to the news release.

At current levels, contact with the water can result in skin, ear and eye infections. AHS says in addition to avoiding swimming and wading in the water, the public is also advised to not drink the untreated lake water. Water-borne organisms, including fecal coliforms, can cause vomiting and diarrhea.

The advisory remains in effect until further notice, and AHS will continue to monitor the water.
