OTTAWA — Health Canada is recalling a brand of frozen chicken nuggets due to possible salmonella contamination.

The recall affects President’s Choice Pub Recipe Chicken Nuggets, and was issued by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency late Wednesday. The recall is in result to an outbreak of foodborne illness.

The nuggets are in an 800 gram box. The expiry date is March 15, 2018, and the UPC number is 0 60383 13171 5.

Health Canada says there have been 12 cases of salmonella reported in Canada between April and June. Alberta and Ontario have each reported five cases, while the other two cases are in New Brunswick and British Columbia. The majority of the cases are male, and the average age of people infected is 23.

Health Canada advises Canadians they should throw out any recalled products or return them to the store they purchased them from for a refund. They also remind the public that frozen raw breaded chicken products need to be cooked to a temperature of 74°C (165°F) to ensure they’re safe to eat.
