Four-year-old girl killed following highway collision near Taber

TABER, AB — A four-year-old girl from Taber has died following a motor vehicle collision late Monday night.

At approximately 9:25 p.m., RCMP officers from Taber, Lethbridge and Bow Island, along with Ems workers, responded to a collision involving a Volkswagen Jetta and a Ford F-150 at the intersection of Highway 36 and Range Road 110.

The investigation revealed the Jetta was travelling north on the highway when it was struck by the truck. According to the release, the truck failed to stop at a stop sign at Range Road 110 before entering the highway.

Five occupants of the Jetta were taken to hospital in Taber, however a four-year-old girl in the car died from her injuries.

The driver and passenger of the truck were treated on the scene and released.

RCMP continue to investigate the collision, and charges are anticipated. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision, and weather conditions at the time were light rain. Lethbridge RCMP Traffic Services are assisting with the investigation.
