Curtis Valk signs NHL contract

SUNRISE, FLORIDA — Curtis Valk has inked his first NHL contract.

The Medicine Hat born forward, who played for his hometown team from 2009-2013, signed a one-year entry-level contract with the Florida Panthers over the weekend.

The 24-year-old who also served as the Tigers captain during his time with the team, appeared in 75 games last season as a member of the AHL’s Utica Comets, scoring 46 points. Valk led the Comets in assists with 30, and he was second in scoring with 16 goals. Valk also spent two seasons with the Kalamazoo Wings of the ECHL, scoring 63 points.

Valk finished his WHL career with 255 points.
