Sun Devils wrap up 2017 season with awards ceremony

MEDICINE HAT, AB – Another season has come to an end for the Medicine Hat Junior B Sun Devils, as they wound up the year with their awards ceremony this week.

Captain Keenan Wilson was named Sun Devils’ MVP, after finishing third in team scoring with 17 goals and 34 points in 13 games.

Aidan McLean had a rookie season to remember, as the 16-year-old scored 22 goals and 40 points in 16 games and was named Rookie of the Year and Top Scorer.

Defensive Player of the Year went to Chris Schlenker, who played in 12 games with four goals and 11 points.

Medicine Hat’s Most Improved Award was handed out to Ben Williams, after playing in 15 games this year as a rookie with one goal and a pair of helpers.

The Coaches Award was given to veteran Tanner Simpson, who finished second in team scoring with 16 goals and 39 points in 17 games played.

Nate Thomas and Damon Phillips also took home some hardware, winning the Bruce Barton Trophy and the Alex Graf Award, respectively.

Thomas played in 16 games between the pipes this year for the Sun Devils, while Phillips had five goals and 13 points in 13 games.

The Sun Devils finished off the regular season with a 6-12 record and ended the year in fourth place in their division.
