OTTAWA — The Public Health Agency of Canada is warning Canadians about an outbreak of salmonella that has left several people ill, including Albertans.

The infections have been linked to frozen raw breaded chicken products, though no recall orders have been issued.

So far, four people in Alberta have reported getting sick, while three others have fallen ill in New Brunswick, Ontario and British Columbia.

The agency says two of those who have fallen ill have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.

The agency is reminding Canadians that frozen raw breaded chicken breasts should should be handled and prepared no differently from other raw poultry products. Those cooking the chicken should follow all cooking instructions and ensure they are cooked to an internal temperature of at least 74°C (165°F) to ensure they are safe to eat.
