MEDICINE HAT, AB — Several Medicine Hat Tigers, along with a member of the Brooks Bandits, have been invited to World Junior Hockey Championship Summer Showcases.

Forward Mason Shaw and defenceman David Quenneville, along with Brooks Bandits defenceman Cale Makar, were announced as members of Team Canada’s development camp roster on Tuesday. The three join 39 others who are seeking a spot on the team in December.

Shaw had 94 points in 71 games last year, and has previously played for Canada at the World U17 and U18 tournaments.

Quenneville also played on the U17 and U18 teams, and had 59 points in 49 games with the Tigers.

Makar scored 75 points in 54 games with the Bandits, and was named the Canadian Junior Hockey League MVP.

Tigers forward Max Gerlach is also heading to a development camp, joining Team USA’s summer showcase.

Quenneville was drafted by the New York Islanders in the seventh round of the NHL Entry Draft last year. Shaw, Makar and Gerlach are all eligible for this year’s draft, which starts Friday. Makar is expected to be selected in the first round, while Shaw is ranked 55th among North American skaters.

All four players will travel to Plymouth, Michigan for the World Junior Summer Showcase, which runs July 28-Aug. 5. The week-long camp will include 12 international competitions between Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States.

This year, the World Junior Hockey Championship runs Dec. 26- Jan. 5 in Buffalo, New York.
