MHPS disciplinary hearing wraps up

MEDICINE HAT, AB — Testimony in the disciplinary hearing for four members of the Medicine Hat Police Service wrapping up today.

The next phase of the hearing will see lawyers present written arguments to the hearing official on July 26.

The hearing stems from an incident involving officers executing a search warrant in 2012.

Officers were looking for stolen property when they knocked on the door of Corey Maxwell, and stumbled on a marijuana grow operation.

All of the charges against Maxwell were withdrawn, as he had a Health Canada permit to grow marijuana for medical purposes. Maxwell filed a formal complaint against the service over the way he was treated.

The hearing officer is expected to have a decision by the end of the year.
