City to offer mail-in ballots during municipal election

May 24, 2017 | 10:03 AM

MEDICINE HAT, AB — For the first time, the City of Medicine Hat is offering mail-in ballots for residents away from the city to vote during the municipal election.

Voters who will be absent from the city between October 7 and election day on October 16 will be able to request a mail-in ballot for the city and school board elections on October 16.

Angela Cruickshank, the returning officer for the municipal election, will begin accepting registrations for the mail-in ballots starting on August 15. Absent voters must fill out and retur their ballots, oath and a copy of their identification by 4:30 p.m. on Election Day.

In a statement posted on the city’s website, Cruickshank says the ballots will allow voters away from the city to still vote, and the service can also benefit people who are unable to physically make it to a polling station on election day.

Advance polls for the election start on October 7, and continue from October 10-14. Information about advance polling locations will be released closer to election day.

More information about the municipal election can be found by calling the city at 403-529-8234 or online at www.medicinehat.ca
